Nutrition:
There are many ways in which diet can nurture and increase our health and by the same token there are many ways in which diet can injure and decrease our level of health. In the quest for health, food can be our greatest ally or our worst enemy. Each patient’s current diet is looked at in detail and therapeutic changes are made in order to support the healing process and also to foster long-term health. Some of these changes are made on a temporary basis for the first few months of treatment during which the body is doing the most healing and others are made on a long-term basis. Also included here are supplements - everything from basic vitamins and minerals to "advanced" supplements like CoEnzyme Q10.
Botanical Medicine
Herbs are wonderful to use in that they most often have very reliable action, often comparable to pharmaceutical drugs with a couple major differences: gentle action and little to no side effects when used properly. In fact, the world of herbs is often considered to be Mother Nature’s pharmacy. There are hundreds of herbs for all different conditions and there are also thousands of different herbal combinations. If botanical medicine is a part of a patient’s protocol, the best herb or combination of herbs for each patient is selected.
Homeopathy
Combination homeopathy is the type of homeopathy mainly used by Dr. Christie. These are special homeopathic medicines where several different remedies have been combined to make one medicine, and each medicine has a specific task that it performs. These remedies not only help to alleviate symptoms, but they also help to strengthen the body and organs, so that once the remedies are discontinued, the benefits remain.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) encompasses several things: diagnosis, diet and herbal treatment.
TCM is mainly used for diagnosis and for fine-tuning a patient’s dietary protocol. TCM is absolutely
invaluable in that it is able to explain every symptom that a person might experience. As you can imagine,
this gives a great amount of insight into what is going on with an individual’s body and health at a rather
deep level. Tongue and pulse diagnosis is also used. The pulse, measured in different locations, corresponds
to different body organs and the qualities of each pulse give information as to how well each organ is working.
The tongue is also able to provide information into how different organs are working; similar to the foot
in reflexology, each area of the tongue corresponds to a different organ.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points
on the body. Each point has a specific "function"
by which it balances the energy of the body. It is when
the body’s energies become unbalanced that health problems
and disease occurs. Only sterile, disposable needles are
used.
Bioimpedance Analysis
Bioimpedancd Analysis (BIA) provides a number of different
measurements which are indicative of your overall state
of health. By using these numbers as a baseline, your
progress toward greater health can be monitored. The BIA
is a body fat analyzer and analyzes body fat, lean body
mass, fat weight, basal metabolic rate, body mass index,
phase angle and hydration status broken down into intra-cellular
water versus extra-cellular water.
Overall Cell Health ("Phase Angle"):
This is an indicator of the overall state of your cell's
health and therefore your overall health. The most important
thing is to see the number increase throughout the course
of your treatment. The higher the number, the healthier
you are.
Body Composition: Many people think
that your body's percentage of fat and muscle is mainly
for athletes or people who are trying to lose weight.
However, this is completely untrue. The more body fat
you have, the more inflammation you have in your body.
Inflammation stresses your liver, immune system and adrenal
glands and is a significant risk factor for several diseases,
including heart disease.
Metabolism: This measurement tells us
whether or not your body is breaking down healthy or unhealthy
tissue for energy.
Water inside/outside of cells: When your body has a high
level of toxicity, there is more water outside your cells
than inside them. Having more water outside of your cells
dilutes the toxins and helps to make them less harmful
to your body. However, this is not a healthy state to
be in because the inside of your cells do not have enough
water to function properly.
Hydration: Most people do not drink enough water and
are chronically dehydrated. When your body is even minimally
low on water your metabolism slows down. There are many
other health problems that may result from low-level dehydration
such as headaches, fatigue, carbohydrate/sweet cravings
and more.
Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy is a technique from Australia in which gentle, rolling motions are performed over muscles and tissues. All these "moves" are performed on various acupressure points. Bowen Therapy stimulates the body to heal itself and is an extremely relaxing treatment, as well. Bowen Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including muscle and joint pain, neck pain, back pain, night sweats, asthma, digestive problems and temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) problems.
Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a system of tapping on acupuncture points to rebalance the body’s energies. The concept of EFT is that all emotional problems and pains, no matter how justified, are due to an energy imbalance in the body. The event that initiated the emotion may be long since over, but according to EFT, the reason a person may not be able to "get over it" is because the energy disturbance remains. Therefore, EFT serves to rebalance that energy, by stimulating certain acupuncture points, not by using needles or deep pressure, but by tapping on them. Generally speaking, the extent to which a problem has its roots in the emotions is the extent to which EFT will help. It is important to remember that many stubborn health problems, surprisingly enough, have an emotional root. This is not to say, however, that it’s merely "all in your head." Often emotions which are not properly dealt with and released become expressed as actual physical symptoms in the body.
EFT can be administered in the office in the form of a treatment or taught in a lesson formation for self-treatment.
Lifestyle/Dietary/Emotional Counseling:
Counseling may take the form of dietary and lifestyle counseling or emotional counseling, for those who wish to further explore their emotions. Although patients are encouraged to talk about their emotional life, no one is ever expected to talk about anything they do not wish to.
Society often teaches us to suppress and swallow our emotions and so often we become cut off from our emotions, and sometimes may not even be able to describe how we are feeling at all. We may also feel unable to express ourselves in a variety of situations for a variety of reasons. We may be afraid to express ourselves at work and lose our job, express ourselves socially and risk rejection or express ourselves within our relationships for fear of not being loved anymore. For patients who are interested in exploring these ideas further and how their life can change for the better because of them, counseling is offered.
